Day by Day Itinerary

DAY 1

DAY 1

You’ll meet our tour coordinator at London’s Heathrow airport and we’ll depart in our luxury charter bus, hydrating along the way, as we head to a welcome luncheon at a historic British pub famous for hosting American airmen during WWII.

After lunch we’ll proceed to our hotel in Cambridge for a few hours of rest, then we’ll reconvene for an evening dinner at our hotel where we’ll deliver an uplifting briefing on the upcoming activities, while handing-out welcome bags and gifts.

We’re off to where the story begins at the former site of Kimbolton Airfield, home of the 379th Bomb Group. On the way, we’ll watch Adam’s never-before-seen interviews with Charlie Brown before standing in the fields that were once the airfield and visiting the 379th Memorial nearby. We'll also visit the Hunts Kart Racing Club, a professional go-Kart track that is built on the last remaining piece of Kimbolton Airfield. After lunch at a quaint pub, we’ll head for a tour of the American Cemetery at Cambridge and a wreath laying. That evening will be all yours, to explore Cambridge or the surrounding airfields.

DAY 2

DAY 2

Make sure your camera batteries are charged because we’re heading to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford for a day of aviation fun. We’ll go flying in a vintage De Havilland Dragon Rapide (the first airliner) over the English countryside, enjoying the same views that our flyboys did, and we’ll be joined in midair by a special guest: a Messerschmitt Bf 109 (Buchon)! For 30 minutes we’ll fly in formation with this rarest of WWII fighters to give you a priceless photoshoot.

We’ll then enjoy a private tour of the American Air Museum and, schedule permitting, we’ll clamber aboard the “Sally B,” for a look inside the last B-17 flying in the UK!

Lunch will be on your own in the air museum’s café, but save room for dinner! Back in Cambridge we’ll dine at special pub that our airmen frequented, and you’ll see their names burned into the ceiling above you while you toast a pint to the day.

DAY 3

DAY 3

We’ll resume Charlie Brown’s story as we head to RAF Seething (the wartime home of the 448th Bomb Group) in eastern England, again, enjoying Adam’s unseen video interviews with Charlie and stories of his other missions.

A private tour of the Seething Control Tower Museum awaits us, and we’ll get to walk the airfield (now a private airport) to transport ourselves back to that December day when the "Ye Olde Pub" limped home after her fateful encounter with Franz Stigler.

We’ll depart Seething and head to the picturesque village of Lavenham where we’ll celebrate our U.K. departure party at the “Airmen’s Bar,” complete with live 1940s music and aircrew reenactors.

DAY 4

DAY 4

Pack your bags because we’re heading over the Alps to Munich! We’ll to hop a quick flight from Heathrow to Munich where we’ll be picked up in our luxury charter bus and then dropped off at our hotel in the city’s desirable Old Town location.

We’ll enjoy a meet and greet with “A Higher Call” author Adam Makos, who will be joining us for the rest of the tour, and together we’ll set off on a walking tour of Old Town to get a taste of Munich’s history, and how Hitler rose to power. We’ll then enjoy our first taste of Bavaria with dinner at a classic Munich restaurant.

DAY 5

DAY 5

We’ll begin our day with a somber reminder of the horrors of WWII with a guided visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp. After lunch, you’ll have the rest of the day and evening free for whatever suits your fancy—maybe shop for wooden handicrafts, visit the legendary Hofbrau Haus, or experience some of Munich’s world-class museums. We’ll be pleased to give you insiders’ suggestions!

DAY 6

DAY 6

Today we’ll get an immersion into the aircraft of the Luftwaffe and the life of Franz Stigler, beginning with a visit to the phenomenal German Aviation Museum at Schleissheim, set on a former Luftwaffe airbase. We’ll have a private tour followed by free time to get up close with some rare WWII aircraft.

After lunch, we’ll then head to the former Munich-Reim airport—the wartime home of JV-44—to follow in Franz’s footsteps, touring the tower that he frequented during his Lufthansa days and more, then taking in the remaining traces of the airfield. We’ll then return to our hotel for dinner at a local hot spot.

DAY 7

DAY 7

Say “Auf Wiedersehen” to Munich because we’re heading to the Alps! We’ll stop on our way to play Indiana Jones and explore an ME-262 factory abandoned in the forest. We’ll hear the stories of both the slave laborers who constructed the facility and the pilots who flew the Me-262s with audacity and daring.

After lunch, we’ll head to our hotel in Berchtesgaden, where you’ll have the rest of the day/evening to stroll the alpine town. You may want to take a boat ride across Lake Konigsee to visit the St. Bartholomae church—or take in the Salt Mine Tour where the Nazis stored valuables in WWII, or see the local cemetery with its spooky wartime graves. Tonight you’re free to enjoy dinner wherever you may roam.

DAY 8

DAY 8

We’ll wake up surrounded by the beauty of storybook Bavaria. Today will be our day to explore this last stronghold of the Third Reich where Nazis took refuge while JV-44 held the skies. Touring with our private guide, a stately brass elevator will whisk us up to one of the great prizes of WWII: the Kehlsteinhaus, Bormann’s birthday gift to Hitler. There we’ll enjoy lunch with a million dollar view of Europe.

After a scenic drive downhill, we’ll enter the cool depths of the Dokumentation Center’s underground bunker, then we’ll visit the remains of Hitler’s home, the Berghof, followed by a stop at the neighboring ruins of Goering’s home and private bunker, the site of Adolf Galland’s final confrontation with “The Fat One.” The day concludes with a hearty dinner at our hotel.

DAY 9

DAY 9

If you liked “The Sound of Music,” you’ll recognize several Von Trapp family locations today as we wind our way through historic Salzburg. We’ll visit the last home of JV-44 at Salzburg airport where Franz bid goodbye to his unit. We’ll stop by Hangar 7 Museum for a private tour of the WWII fighters in the famed “Red Bull” aviation collection.

After a quick bus tour around town to get your bearings, we’ll break for lunch and free time for exploring on your own. Visit an outdoor market, indulge in some confectionaries, or tour the city’s legendary White Castle! We’ll then return to Berchtesgaden along the same stream-lined road that Franz Stigler traveled to make his surrender. That night we’ll enjoy a farewell reception and dinner, toasting our newfound friendships with a local spirit known only to Berchtesgaden.

DAY 10

DAY 10

We’ll take in the early morning splendor of Bavaria as we depart our hotel to take departure flights out of Munich.
